And once again I stood as his best man.

I sent a quick glance behind me at Mark, who’d volunteered to sit on the women’s side of the aisle, and I thought wistfully of getting married. However, even if Mark was willing to consider it, the current political climate pretty much precluded it.

After the weddings and the reception, DB and his ladies left for Tulum, and his family returned home to San Francisco.

On Sunday afternoon, Mark and I flew back into Dulles and went to baggage claim. I rubbed the back of my neck.

“Something wrong?”

“I’ve got the weirdest feeling…” I looked around. “I guess it’s nothing. I know what you always say about being paranoid.” I looked around again, then shook my head. “It’s just…Too much night life, I suppose.”

“It’s okay, babe.”

“Yes. Yes, it is.” And I smiled up at him.
