I observed him for a moment, then turned back to my director.
“You realize that by leaving them twisting in the wind, you’re basically signing their death warrants.”
Bram’s mouth thinned, but I could see that for some reason he was keeping himself out of the conversation.
I tried again. “This will make it even more difficult to recruit assets—Look, I’m willing to go to Iraq. I know some people. I have a duffel in my office, and I can be on my way as soon as I can make travel arrangements.”
“You won’t be going anywhere, Mann.” Jenner sneered at me. “We’ve learned some significant information about you.”
“What are you talking about?”
“It’s come to our attention that you’ve become… friendly… with a certain WBIS agent—Mark Vincent.”
“Excuse me?”
“I saw the two of you at Dulles. More than once!” Taylor sneered also, mimicking his director. “Don’t try to deny it.”
