He glanced down at the paper, then met my gaze, his own cold and stony. “Go do whatever it is you have to. We’ll… manage.”

It had been some time since the WBIS had one-upped the CIA. If that was what he planned now… well, he was The Boss.

“Thank you.” I left his office and jogged down to the seventh floor, where I still had my office, even though I was now Director of Interior Affairs. Ms. Parker, my own secretary, was seated behind her desk, looking in good spirits for being six months pregnant. “I’ll be gone the rest of the afternoon.”

“Mr. Matheson is in, if anything should come up.”

“Good. Thanks.” I took off at a run, glad that I could take the stairs once again.

It had taken me half an hour to get to Langley, mostly due to the traffic. I drove into the parking lot and found Quinn’s green Jag.

I had no intention of waiting, though. I parked my Dodge in the nearest available spot and went into the building.
