Mikael Jarvela may only be a half shifter, but that doesn’t mean he can’t be alpha of the eastern Finland farm-turned-sanctuary his father founded. As always,they held a barbecue party for Mikael’s birthday.Everyone,the kids included,had gathered to the old house where Zoya was using the old trusty grill and Lark was watching the kids.It was always like this when there was an event of any kind;Zoya had a break from the kids,and Lark had one from the kitchen.Not that they disliked their given parts in the community or that Zoya didn’t cook for her pack,but it was still a special occasion.


The shifter parties,even when the man of the hour was technically a human,were different from most other Finnish parties in one major way;there was no alcohol available.Mikael had a bottle of whiskey in the house,but he rarely drank any.The shifters all disliked alcohol,and Mikael thought it was because of their animal sides.They could drink if they wanted to,but it made them really sick,like their bodies couldn’t burn alcohol as well as a human’s could.
