Chapter 6

Certain that I would be unwelcome if I went down to the river, I spent the rest of the day milling around the academy on my own.

I didn’t bother going to lunch or dinner in the dining hall because I was sure I wouldn’t be welcome there either. Instead, I made myself a couple of snacks in the dormitory kitchen and spent most of the time in my room, arranging and rearranging my things until I was completely happy with where I had placed everything.

By the time evening came around, there was no sign of Zoe or the other girls. That was until Zoe barged into the bedroom and threw herself down on her bed, turning her back on me to make it abundantly clear that she had no interest in talking to me.

I made a show of getting into my pyjamas and climbed into my own bed with a deep sigh.

Of course, I wasn’t going to sleep yet. I still had to meet Booth. But Zoe was clearly still pissed at me, and I didn’t want to go raising her suspicions.
