Chapter 7

Luckily for me, the lights around the academy never seemed to go out. The oil lamps that lit the courtyard and the side pathways always burned bright no matter what time of night it was. They chased away the shadows and made me feel slightly less uneasy about sneaking out in the middle of the night.

I had just slipped onto the path that led between the girls’ dorm and the main building when the first drop of rain bounced off my forehead, causing me to jump in surprise.

When I glanced upwards, more droplets began to dance down around me, and I closed my eyes for a moment, allowing them to wash away the stress of the day. No doubt there would be more soon to come.

With a deep breath and an even heavier sigh, I continued onwards.

Although the moon wasn’t full anymore and rainclouds were beginning to crowd in, the path was still well lit, and I could easily make out the faces of the God and Goddess statues as I passed.
