Chapter 8

I hoped that the light was weaker out here to hide the way that my cheeks blushed at the way he’d caught me so easily.

Why did I always have to be so clumsy?

“Come on, let’s hurry up, or we’ll miss half of what they are up to,” Booth urged me forwards even though everything inside me was saying we shouldn’t be here. We shouldn’t have been following our Grand Priestess around during the middle of the night even if she was up to no good.

Even if we saw her doing something terrible, what could we do about it? I’d been here less than a month, and Booth was just another student. Who exactly could we go to if we did discover something anyway?

Still, I began to follow Booth down the path, keeping to the thickest of the shadows as the rain grew heavier.

The cemetery gates came into view all too quickly, and I wasn’t at all sure that I was ready for whatever I was going to see when we went past them.
