Chapter 19

Again the bird zeroed in on me. This time it lunged towards my back as if trying to urge me back the way I had come.

The sensation deep in the pit of my stomach told me that it was trying to tell me something, but I was too freaked out to listen.

“Get away from me!” I yelled as I lashed out with flailing arms. “Leave me alone!”

The weight of everything that had happened over the last twenty-four hours suddenly piled on my shoulders, and I sank to my knees, totally overwhelmed.

With my head in my hands, I began to weep, suddenly not caring that there were students all around the courtyard. They were watching me in horror, but not a single one of them stepped in to help as the raven cawed, circling high above my head like it had decided I was its next meal.

Then I heard him.

“Brianna!” Booth’s voice was shrill and filled with concern as he hurried over to me and dropped onto his knees at my side.
