“I always make chocolate chip pancakes the first morning Zoe comes to stay.” Joan scowled at her grandson. “I don’t see why tomorrow should be any different.”
“Actually, umm…” I hopped from one foot to the other, feeling a little awkward. “I haven’t eaten all day.”
“Oh, why didn’t you say so?” Joan gasped. “You go and get comfortable, and I’ll make you a sandwich. Is cheese okay?”
“On top of being against pop grandma is also a vegetarian,” Mathew warned me as though it was a bad thing.
“I would have gone vegan years ago if not for my cheese.” Joan chuckled, and I couldn’t help but smile. I was beginning to like her more and more by the minute.
“Cheese is fine.”
