Chapter 12

He held up the plate he was carrying, and my stomach gave an aggressive growl, reminding me once more of just how hungry I was.

“Thanks.” I forced a smile as I took the plate from him.

“Try not to get crumbs on my bed,” Mathew said jokingly, and this time my smile was more genuine. It was hard not to smile when faced with such a gorgeous face.

“I’ll try.”

“Look, it’s none of my business,” he said as he shoved his hands into his jeans pockets, “but you really look like you could do with someone to talk to.”

A sheepish expression crossed his face, and I wasn’t sure it was possible, but it actually made him even more good looking.

“I, hum, thanks for the offer but I wouldn’t even know where to start.”

In an attempt to stop myself from spilling my guts, I grabbed one half of the sandwich and took a bite. The sensation in the pit of my stomach told me that even though Mathew wasn’t a member of the academy, it still wouldn’t be a good idea to tell him everything that was going on.
