Chapter 27

For the first time, his leather jacket was open, pulled back from his chest to reveal several straps that crisscrossed his torso. Two of them were empty but several more held sheathed blades, gemstones in the hilts glinted in the moonlight, catching my eye.

“I….I thought you left.” It was the first thing I could think to say. My mind was still racing with what had just happened.

“What? No, thank you for saving your life?” Archer asked coolly. He didn’t seem the least bit flustered as he shoved the blade in his hand back into one of the holders on his torso and stepped closer to me.

“I could have handled it myself,” I assured him. The last thing I wanted was for this big head to see me as a damsel in distress.
