“Like death warmed up,” I admitted. There was no point in lying to him. I knew I must look exactly how I felt. I’d never been very good at hiding how I was feeling.

“Anders will look after him. You have my word,” Archer promised, and I struggled not to flinch with surprise as he placed his hand on my knee.

It was a small relief with everything else that was going on in my life, but there was little I could do about all of that right now. All I could do was wait to see if Merrin or Zoe made contact.

Maybe Booth will call me again. I thought. Maybe this time I’ll be around to take the call.

A shiver passed through me at the thought of speaking to him after everything that had happened. Sure, I was still pissed about his confession, but he was one of the few people at the Academy who knew Celestria was lying.

“Are you sure you’re going to be alright?” Archer asked. His green eyes sparked with concern as he squeezed my knee.
