Chapter 25

Mr. Weber must have seen the distress on her face, even though she was usually good at hiding her feelings. He leaned back against the table and folded his arms across his chest. “A few years back…” He glanced at Thaddeus. “This was before your daddy and I got together. I went fishing out by the salt islands with a couple of friends, one of whom happened to be blind and brought his Seeing Eye dog with him. That’s not the islands’ name. It’s just what we call them.”

Babe was confused. Where was he going with this, and what was the point?

“I never heard this story,” Thaddeus said, sounding a little disgruntled.
