Chapter 75

“Ready to go inside?”

He nodded, and I started to release him. For a second, he tightened his hold on me, then let me go and got out of the car, dragging his backpack after him. He slid his arms through the straps and hoisted it to rest on his shoulder blades while he waited by the trunk.

After I had it opened, I handed him the bag from the pharmacy that held the items he’d picked out.

“May I take the computer?”

“Sure thing.” I gave it to him, then gathered up all the other bags. I didn’t want to make more than one trip if I didn’t have to. The car could wait in the driveway until the morning. I closed the trunk and pressed the button on the key fob, locking the car.

We climbed the steps to the porch, and an unfamiliar sound filled the quiet night. What the fuck…? I looked up to see wind chimes hanging to the side of the front door. Quinn must have brought them home with him, because they hadn’t been there when I’d left Friday afternoon.
