The expression on Quinn’s face became thoughtful.

“Elwyn Gautier. I hate that name—it’s f—”

“Don’t say it, kid,” I warned.

“I was going to say funky.”

“Okay, sorry.”

“I’ve never used it. That’s how we were able to stay a couple of jumps ahead of them after they started coming after us.”

“Them?” Quinn’s eyebrow rose, and he sent me a look.

“Pandora Gautier and her goons.” As succinctly as possible, I explained what I knew to that point, concluding with what had happened in the pharmacy’s parking lot. “He’s had about eleven different names, not including the one the bitch saddled him with at birth.”

“Ma said she picked them from band members during the British Invasion of the sixties—the Beatles, the Dave Clark 5, Jerry and the Pacemakers, Freddie and the Dreamers, Peter and Gordon…”

“Uh-huh.”

“Ah. So Pandora Gautier is his biological mother? I thought that Elwyn rang a bell.”
