“Except you, sir?”

“I’m glad I didn’t have to say it.”

“Yes, sir.” He chuckled. “I’ll get on it as soon as I get to headquarters, and I’ll let you know what I find.”

“Good.” I disconnected the call, then stared thoughtfully at the strips of bacon on the paper towels. I’d only managed to eat a single piece, which Quinn had stuffed into my mouth. Did I want more?

Dumb question. Of course I did. I picked up one, bit off a piece, and chewed. Excellent bacon.

“I hope you saved some for me.” Quinn walked into the kitchen.

“But your blood pressure, Quinn.”

He made a scoffing sound, accepted the crispier strip I offered him, and smiled. “I forgot my coffee,” he said.

“How’s your finger?” I took his cup from the counter, dumped the cold coffee down the drain, and poured him a fresh cup.
