“Where are they?”

“I had a feeling you’d want to know. They’re in Medical.”

“Okay.”

“Max wound up working beside me for the rest of the night, and you know something, Vince? For someone who isn’t a medical examiner, he took that poor woman’s condition with more equanimity than I’d expect.”

It didn’t surprise me, considering Max had worked for an antiterrorist organization as whacked out as Prinzip, but if Max hadn’t shared that information with his lover, then I wasn’t going to either.

“What about Paget?” She was a competent doctor—the WBIS wouldn’t have hired her otherwise.

“She’ll be available.”

“Okay, I’ll talk to her. Smitty—”

“I know the drill. I’ll send the report to your computer.”

“Thanks. I appreciate your help.”

“No problem.” He yawned. “I gotta go.”
