Mark Dauphin loves his nephews, Sam and Logan, and he'll do anything his brother-in-law Cole asks, but when Cole wants Mark to play nice with Stefano Magnussi, Mark isn't sure he can comply. Stefano is hotter than fire, but Mark can't see past the fact that Stefano is one of those guys, the type of men who date guys half their age, the type of guys who made Mark give up on dating.<br><br>Of course, a little wine and several cocktails later, Mark finds himself dropping more than his defenses with Stefano. Mark isn't given much time to reflect though, as the war that's been brewing between the shivers comes to a violent head, and he soon learns that sometimes you just have to trust in those around you.

Mark's Midlife

I continued to dive and fly, over and over, each time hitting one of the shifters who was engaged in combat with us. Cole’s presence alone was enough to send most of the shifters in the direction of some other opponent. Brilliantly, Cole used this to his advantage and went directly toward one of their boats. He dove under about ten feet from one of them, and the next thing I knew he was coming up full speed, his mouth ripping into the side of the boat he had targeted.


The man and woman on that boat, and the two men on the other looked terrified. I decided to add to their terror. I took a quick look at the positioning of the boats and dove. When I emerged, with one solid leap, I knocked the two men on the other boat off into the water. If you want to play with sharks, be my guest, I thought to myself.


Chapter 40
