Chapter 5

Noir cursed his stupidity—he’d gripped the same arm Bair had, and judging by the oozing welts he still could see on the man’s neck whatever was hidden underneath the shirt wouldn’t be pretty.

The little creature smelled of fear and sickness. For a second, Noir considered putting him out of his misery. He didn’t approve of Bair’s game, though he did understand the appeal of playing with the human. Maybe a quick kill would be the kindest thing Noir had to offer him.

He gritted his teeth. He’d only ever seen one human before, and that was at a distance. It would be too bad if this one died before he’d managed to learn a little more about the species.
