Chapter 6

“Bair isn’t the only Daector species in his crew, you know.”

Max tensed. He wasn’t? He was the only one who looked like a fish. Max wanted to ask who else was poisonous, but he didn’t have the energy.

Quam steered him to the back of the kitchen, past the office door, and up the stairs to where they had their rooms. There were empty rooms; Max could have more people living there, but he liked it with just Quam and him. As a human, he had to be careful, and he trusted Quam.

Many species out there sought power—for some, it was all that mattered, others were venomous for humans, and maybe for Reptoids too, Max didn’t know. What he did know was that he was relatively safe with Quam. He could break Max in two in a blink of an eye but not once had Max suspected he wanted to.
