Chapter 34

“So far, what you’ve described is mostly busy work, isn’t it?”Josh said.

“Yes,it is,but we have a serious transportation problem,”Ken said.“All of the company trucks are much too new to be operable.”

“I think we in this valley can round up enough old F-150 pickup trucks to solve that problem for you,”Sam said.

“Great,”Ken said.“That’s one huge problem solved.”

He went on to lay out a plan for gradually turning on the power,a few areas at a time.

“That sounds good,”Claire said.“How long do you think it will take you to completethat task?”

“Several weeks,”Ken said.“Bear in mind that we’ll have to visit every customer before they come back on line.”

“Why is that?”Josh said.

“We have no way of knowing what’s happened to peoples’houses and other buildings over the past three years,”Ken said.“If they’ve suffered any structural damage, the mere act of turning on the power could start fires.Caution is the order of the day.”
