“What’s this?”

“If I don’t mistake the floorplan, this is Agnes’s workroom. And since we know that she’s otherwise occupied, and probably will be for at least as long as it takes to fix the clockwork, we won’t be missed.” He grabbed Seth’s hand and dragged his lover with mock severity into Agnes’s smithy.

“What are you on about?” Seth shook his head. The smithy was filled with interesting bits of cog-work, raw materials, piles of schematics, and a portable forge.

“I was thinking what a shame it is that I cannot claim you as mine in a more public fashion,” Dex said. He slid the bolt home on the door, then embraced Seth from behind, nuzzling at his ear with warm, eager lips. “We cannot dance together, nor be found slipping away for a quiet rendezvous like other couples. Annoying. Unfair. Frustrating.” Dex’s breath shivered into Seth’s ear, causing Seth’s stomach to tighten in sudden need.”
