Chapter 19

“Dex?” Seth was curled on the floor next to him, arms wrenched behind his back. His bottom lip was swollen and dried blood caked on his chin. “Are you all right?”

Dex twisted his shoulders; his arms were bound behind his back and he couldn’t feel his fingers. “Not even remotely. Where are we?” What vision he had from his good eye was blurry.

“Under the Thames,” Seth said. “Our captors have some sort of submersible boat. I imagine they’re taking us out to sea; it’s a wonder this craft can get all the way under the river.” Seth struggled, twisting his shoulders.

“Who are they?”

“Kin, of a sort,” Seth said. His breath came in ragged pants, his voice roughened. “Cas’s pack. My—” Seth’s shoulder popped loudly and he groaned with effort, twisting his sweaty wrists. “—packmates. Gwren. I’m so sorry.”

“Obviously you are not on good terms with your family.”
