Tears dribbled down her face again. What had been the point of scrimping for those useless private lessons? And that barb about her ‘cheap animal’ really hurt. She knew that her horse had cost far less than any other at the barn.

What do you do when your instructor gives up on you and you’re forbidden to bring in another one?

Emma suspected Ms Larimar feared outside competition. She’d look stupid in front of her students if another trainer were to solve Wisdom’s problem.

There was no law against her changing barns. Emma would love to find a place where any instructor was welcome—always assuming Emma could find a competent one, willing to invest time in her horse.

But Wisdom was comfortable at Blakewell Stables: he got on with his equine companions and she hated to move him after only six months. Plus the barn was so conveniently close to her home.
