“I knew I was right. By the way, I’m saying I understand and I accept this fact. I mean, there’s nothing I could do to change it, right? But I have to put some distance between us, you understand that? I’m not going to ignore you, nothing like that. No. But I need space. Between us.”


“Space,” Alex repeated, nodding, trying to elaborate on Daniel’s words, feeling like he was dying.


“Exactly,” Daniel answered, biting his lower lip.


Alex considered Daniel’s words and searched for something to say. He wanted to scream at him and say no, it wasn’t the right thing to do. He needed time. He needed to stay close to him, he knew it. But he also knew he couldn’t ask him to wait for him for…how long?


“Okay, I guess,” Alex murmured then, sipping his coffee.


“Good.” Daniel cleaned his cup. “Now, I’m going out. I promised Matt I’d go with him to the mall.”


“Oh…” Alex swallowed hard. “You two…are you still dating?”
