Chapter 55

“Intro to writing, math, intro to social work, criminal justice…”

“You’re shitting me. Isn’t that some sort of pre-rec for becoming a cop?”

Tripp nodded. “Or for knowing what to look out for to keep us out of trouble.”

“Interesting idea.”

“I thought so,” Tripp replied tightly as he headed into the guestroom and closed the door.

“He really doesn’t like me, or trust me,” Galvez stated, sounding upset about the fact.

Maverick looked at Dirk. “In the interests of trying to keep the peace, should we tell him, since Tripp hasn’t?”

“It’s really Tripp’s choice.”

“Well after a month of working with him…”

“Guys, I’m right here,” Galvez pointed out. “What’s this deep, dark secret the kid has that you think is making him dislike me?”

Deciding he had to tell Galvez something, and that it really couldn’t be about Tripp’s sexuality since that was up to him to reveal, if he wanted to, Dirk paused. Then it hit him. “He lived on the streets for a long time. I don’t know if you know that.”
