Chapter 70

Ten minutes later, Galvez pulled into the parking area of a large nationwide motel. Jesse parked next to him and everyone got out of the van, including Lucky. The motel was pet-friendly, one of several reasons they’d chosen it. Another was its size. It was large, eight stories, taking up half a city block. Dirk had made reservations for all of them earlier that day, using the credit card that went with a fake ID belonging to one Donald Carter.

With their bags slung over their shoulders, the group entered the motel lobby. While Dirk went to check them in, the others explored the breakfast area off to one side of the lobby, and the snack shop. When he was finished, Dirk gathered them together and they went up to their rooms on the top floor.

“After everyone’s settled in, we’ll find somewhere to go for dinner,” Dirk told them, earning him thumbs-ups or cheers, depending on the team member in question.
