“It’s air conditioned,” Terry said almost angrily.

Rudy smiled wryly. “And other time we’d be glad for that, but yeah, right now outside would be better. Let’s find the bus stop and get home.”

By the time they got to the stop, the sun was coming out. It didn’t do much to dry their clothes but at least it warmed them while they waited for the bus. When it pulled up and the doors opened, the driver looked at them askance.

Rudy stepped on first, started to put his money in the fare box, only to stop when the driver said, “Not sure I can let you people on. You’ll make a mess of the seats.”

“So we’ll stand,” Rudy retorted.

“Still not sure.”

“Look, dude, our money’s as good as anyone else’s.”

Terry, who was right behind Rudy, winced when he heard a passenger say, “Probably stole it.”

Rudy rounded on the man, obviously having overheard him. “We worked for it, just like you do for yours.”

The man scowled. “Selling drugs or yourselves?”
