“Who was that?” I asked.

“Deena. I heard you two had a nice dinner this evening.”

“We did.”

Darren frowned. “I’m sorry. I had no idea she’d show up at your office and ambush you like that.”

“It’s okay. I enjoyed meeting her.”

“She needs to stop interfering in my life. I would have introduced you two eventually, but she had to jump the gun because she’s nosy.”

“She’s just concerned about you. You’re her little brother.”

“We’re two years apart, Mark. It’s not like she’s a surrogate mother to me, no matter how much she wants to be.”

“She did refer to you as ‘the baby’ a few times during dinner.”

Darren rolled his eyes. “She’s a pain in the ass. Seriously. What else did she say about me?”

“Nothing terrible or embarrassing. I got the feeling she just wanted to find out who her brother’s been spending so much time with over the past few months.”

“Did she tell you our parents want to meet you?”
