Chapter 30

Vincent slowed to a fast walk up the last hillside, panting heavily, “For a skinny little Russian, you’re getting damn heavy, Kolya.”

He broke into a jog once more when they reached the top and practically slid down the other side with Nikoloz in his lap. They reached the car just as the first of the explosions rocked the night.

“Get in,” Vincent ordered, sliding over the hood to climb into the driver’s seat. He tossed the kit bag onto the floor of the back seat. “Close the door.”

Plumes of dirt flew up as he put the car into reverse and floored it. “Hang on, Kolya!” Whipping the convertible around in a tight circle, he regained the highway and really dropped the pedal down. “We’ll get someone to ship our suitcases to San Francisco. I’m taking you straight to the branch office and get the medicos to give you that antidote.”
