“And I willcall,” I whispered. “Not just because I’ll need to, but because I want to. Now, more than ever.”

“Why would we even consider letting Ian tag along?” Duff asked the minute I was back in the office again.

“Who said we were?” I replied tightly.

“Liddy said Ian brought it up again while I was gone and she inadvertently let it slip that we’d be taking the van. Meaning there’s room for him.”

“Yeah, she did,” I said, giving her a sour look.

“Hey, in my defense, he said he’d follow us if he wasn’t allowed to be with us on the drive.”

“How the hell would we explain Philip having to sleep during the day?” Duff asked.

“We leave at night and he takes the first shift driving,” Rob said. “It will take almost a day from here to there.”

“That’s all fine and dandy,” Duff replied tightly. “Once we get there however…”

“I know.” Rob shrugged. “Keeping him from questioning how we do some of the things we can, and will need to, might be difficult.”
