“Maybe we’ll be able to get lost in Denver City and just blend in with everyone else.”
After a long silence, Frank asked, “Do you really think we’ll be able to blend in?”
“We had our choice of places to live. We could have stayed with your family in Audubon and helped out there. We could have stayed in Carroll and worked on my father’s farm. But we both know the scrutiny we’d have been under if we’d stayed in either place. Even if Denver City isn’t as big as it seems, there won’t be anyone there that will know us from Adam. Besides, I heard once that people out west don’t care about things like people do back east.”
After another long pause, Frank agreed. “We’ve put so much into this, but if we don’t leave on our own accord, we could be forced to move. I guess it’s best to get out while we can and start new somewhere else.”
