Chapter 9

In only a few minutes release came. Chad lay there, wishing he were still with Bo, lamenting even more that he’d let his mother’s piety dictate his actions. As he began to drift off to sleep, he made a decision. When he returned to the performance the next day, he would find Bo and see if he could undo what had happened earlier. Bo had awakened something within him. He knew it could not be caged again. God or no God, Chad wanted to be with Bo.

The next morning Chad came into the kitchen for breakfast. His mother was at the cook stove. Sally was seated at the table.

“Good morning,” Chad said, waiting for his mother’s interrogation on why he had been out so late.

Sally piped up with, “Was it fun watching them set up the tents?”

Chad looked toward his mother, whose back was to him as she prepared breakfast. She made no indication she was going to respond.

“Yes, It was fascinating,” Chad said, still watching his mother out of the corner of his eye.
