Chapter 4

Yet here was someone who’d managed to make peace with what had happened to him. How had he done it?

I set the sheet of paper aside, trying to decide on a course of action while I went through the rest of my mail. Half an hour later, I took my laptop into the bedroom, intent on checking out upcoming bike race events before going to sleep.

Which, of course, was when my buddies upstairs started in on the springs. They’re like fucking rabbits!I felt like Michael J. Fox in that scene in the movie The Secret of My Success where he was conducting the guy and girl next door going at it, and pounding the wall.

I could either stay here and torment myself with my friends having sex, or get out for a bit, and maybe even call Cypher Tremonte.

Mind made up, I got dressed and cycled over to the café on Cavil Street. After locking up my bicycle, I sauntered in and ordered a decaf coffee, black. Once I got it, I sat down at a table in the far corner and took out my cell phone.
