Chapter 3

“Yeah, except when you’re in that class,” Damien replied. “It’s like you switch personalities or something. You’re totally in the zone, like a drill sergeant. If I didn’t know what a teddy bear you are usually, I’d be terrified.”

Huh. I’d never thought about it, but I didhave a different persona in that environment. I scoffed, however, at the idea of Damien being “terrified” of me. “You could break me in half without even trying. You’re way bigger and more intimidating than I’ll ever be.”

“Still…” Damien put away his phone, then stood. “Anyway, time for another training session. Later, dude.”

I watched him trot toward the workout area, and then I went behind the front desk to be on hand for clients who needed help with lockers or their membership.

When I got home that evening, I showered, had a quick meal, then sat on the couch that Damien had left behind when he’d moved upstairs. I had a stack of mail to go through, and my laptop sat open on the table before me.
