Chapter 34

His spur of the moment deed had surprised him, too, since Brian had always held team unity in high regard. His team was his second family. He didn’t allow any of that type of bullshit from his other teammates, so why was he the one doing it to someone else? Why was he being the bully to Oliver?

“What are you thinking about?”

Brian’s feet shot off the couch. He had to breathe fresh air.

“I have to get out. Tell Jakey I’ll be home in time for dinner.”

He ignored his brother’s questioning look and grabbed the keys and slammed the front door on his way out.

Brian drove aimlessly with no destination in mind. The urge to get away from the thoughts that were suffocating him and his brother’s well-intentioned questions had grated on his nerves. He found himself driving purposelessly through his neighborhood, the sound of Ryan O’Neal’s vocals on full blast and piercing through the muddled thoughts that vied for dominance in his mind.
