Twin brothers Brian and Matt Walker went to live with their mother’s brother after the death of their parents at an early age. Jake was stacking salad ingredients on the counter by the time Brian made it back and was surprised by the rush of affection that swept over him as he watched his uncle lost in the mundane act of preparing dinner. Jake washed the salad greens under the tap with mindless concentration. He only noticed Brian as he walked up next to him. “Need some help?”


Jake snapped out from his reverie but recovered quickly. His uncle was such a handsome guy, he wondered again how he was still single.


“There you are.” Jake smiled at him and swirled the greens under the tap. “You want to toss the salad?”


“Sure.” He headed to the kitchen stairs before turning around. “I’ll just freshen up before dinner. Few minutes.”


Jake smiled again and made eye contact with him. The helpful gesture went a long way to clearing the last of the ice between them.
