Chapter 37

Brian waited it out.

“How much older are we talking?”

“A junior at SMC.”

Jake’s gaze bore into him. “Is he the guy who gave you the alcohol?”

“No,” Brian fibbed convincingly. Damn. He hated lying to his uncle. “I got that at the first senior year party.” He kept his eyes down, focusing on the salad.

“Is that where you met Adam?”

“Yeah.”

Brian carried the salad to the dining room table with Jake hot on his heels. Jake didn’t say anything else as he placed their water glasses around the table but then said after a moment. “I’ll want to meet him, Bri.”

“Sure,” Brian said. “He’s so handsome, and mature. He has his own place and he’s paying his own way.”

“That’s admirable.” Jake disappeared into the kitchen and returned with cheesy garlic bread in tow. “Don’t look so worried.” His uncle smiled at him. “If he’s really on the up and up, he’ll be just fine.”

Brian smiled and placed the salad on the table before heading up the stairs to call his brother.
