Chapter 81

“You’re really going to make me say it, aren’t you?”

“I’m not making you do anything,” Oliver said and refilled the milk canister.

“Fine,” Brian said, getting up and ducking his head to hide the heat in his cheeks. “I’ll see you there.” He said it like it was a done deal, and to him it was.

“Fine,” said Oliver, his face impassive. But Brian noticed a ghost of a smile tugging at Oliver’s mouth. It did more for him then than he’d ever admit, knowing it was he who nearly put another smile on Oliver’s face. One Oliver didn’t get paid to give.

He threw his cup in the trashcan and made his way out the door, not looking back. Last thing he needed was Oliver thinking he had the upper hand.
