Chapter 82

“So I thought we could—”

Brian wanted Oliver to finish that last sentence so badly, but a painful slap on his shoulder cut him off. He turned his head and his toe curled instinctively, painfully. Adam stood flanked by two friends, looking bored and over it. As they made eye contact, Adam’s face betrayed a small smile. But instead of the usual pull of seeing Adam’s handsome face, a cold sweat broke out over Brian’s body. He needed to do this and get it over with.

Brian could smell the familiar aftershave and cigarette scent from Adam’s close proximity that left him stifled.

“Hey, High School.” Adam moved in for a kiss, but Brian sidestepped it and moved his head away. Adam seemed confused but it was soon replaced by his signature indifference.

Oliver eyed them through bushy eyebrows, keeping his head low as though intruding on a private moment.

“You totally disappeared on me after dinner the other night. Thought you’d gone and forgotten me.”
