Chapter 84

Matt was just able to catch the tail end of the car that had dropped his brother off as it pulled away from the curb once Brian had made his way inside. Was that Oliver’s car?

“Brian!”

His brother breathed heavily as he considered the stairs and placed his left hand gingerly over his belly and gripped the railing with the other. It looked like each step was splintering his entire body. Matt moved to help his brother by sliding his arm underneath the free arm but was taken aback by the violent shrug off.

“No…don’t…touch me.”

Matt stood next to his brother silently, slowly climbing each step with him while tears of disbelief blurred his vision.

Matt came to a standstill at his brother’s door and looked at his twin’s silhouette staring unseeingly out the window. A strip of moonlight shone through the window, casting an eerie light over Brian’s hunched shoulders. His form was broken. Arms wrapped around his middle, his position on the bed awkward.
