Chapter 96

Matt grew impatient but kept quiet. He relaxed as James untwined his grip and wrapped their fingers together again. Sometime during their talk the first bell had rung, but neither of them moved to get up. Time had been suspended and first period was probably already well under way, but neither of them cared.

“I stayed at the Viceroy on my dad’s account there and cleaned out the minibar.”

“You didn’t,” Matt said incredulously.

James laughed into his hair, nodding.

“And there we were, wondering if you were passed out in some alley.”

“I told you, your sympathy for me would wane if you learned the truth.”
