‘‘Exactly,” Castiel answered with a smile of his own, pleased that this young man understood. “Humans do not think they have true mates?”

Levi mulled the question over for long minutes. “Not the way I’m guessing you mean. Sometimes we meet someone that feels like we belong to each other for all eternity, but we can’t know for sure.”

“Have you found such a one?” He could not help but be curious. Except for knowing about Levi’s job as a fashion designer and that his soul was a dancing pulse of light, the young human was very private.

“Maybe.” The cryptic smile revealed nothing, of course, though Castiel could almost taste the smitten air that surrounded Levi like a well-loved cloak. Then the human glanced at the band on his wrist and got off the bed. “Now shoo. I have deadlines to meet and no more time to entertain your questions.”

“Wait!” Castiel slid off the stool, wing almost bumping the table in his haste. “What should I do about Jason?”
