Chapter 23

So maybe Nick wasn’t gay, but maybe he wasn’t disgusted by people who were, either. Maybe he wouldn’t murder Tab if he found out. Maybe. Maybe he wouldn’t be horribly offended. He had to have guessed Tab was gay, everybody knew that, it was so obvious, but…but maybe he wouldn’t be horrified that Tab liked him. Maybe.

“Okay, kid?” Uncle Eddie asked, clapping Tab on the shoulder.

“Yeah,” Tab stared at the closing changing room door, and Uncle Eddie snorted, grinning and shaking his head.

“Nick’s a good kid,” he said.

“Yeah. Well.”

“You could do worse.”

Tab went pink.

“Kate’s not the only one who’s noticed,” Uncle Eddie said.

Tab went red.

“Nor am I,” Uncle Eddie said significantly, and winked at Tab. “But me and Kate disagree on this one.”

“Uh…?”

“Want to get a move on, kiddo. Lad like that—well. Good kid, but he’s a bit dense. Nice enough, but he’s dumb, you hear me? You’re going to need to tell him. Outright.”
