Chapter 10

The evening’s delight lingered with him for the entire ride home. He was looking forward to going to bed in a good mood. That was waylaid by the discovery of his landlord outside his door when he came down the hall.

“Hey Ralph,” Wes said. “What’s up?”

Ralph was a short older man, but you wouldn’t think it from the way he could stare someone down even if he had to crane his neck to do it. Wes was nearly a head taller than him, but felt subdued by the cross glare Ralph gave him as he adjusted his glasses. “Please inform your ex that I amnot your secretary, regardless of whether you are answering his calls yourself or not.”

Wes’s heart dropped into his stomach. “Oh, man, Ralph, I’m sorry. I didn’t think he would call you.”
