Chapter 35

“Incredible, Cam.” Vicky took a deep breath. “Incredible.”

“Thanks.”

“Well,” Vicky finally said, “I’m going to kick you out. I do have real work to do. I hope you don’t mind if I reprimand you in public.”

“No.” Cam shook her head. “I’m used to it by now.” She smiled. “Thanks,” she whispered

Cam turned and walked out of Vicky’s office.

“Don’t forget to use the phone next time,” Vicky called after her. “And if you miss one more appointment, you’re going back in.”

Then she turned and beckoned to the next parolee.

The first thing Cam did when she got home was dial her sister’s number.

“Hi, Lor,” Cam said when her sister answered the phone. “Hope this is a good time to talk.”

“It is. I just put the dishes in the dishwasher.”

“Ah, my homemaker sister.”

“Don’t you have a dishwasher?” Lori asked.

“Yeah, there’s one here.”

“Don’t you ever use it? Or do you eat out all the time?” Lori knew her sister didn’t do a lot of cooking.
