Eron snapped his hand away from hers. “I’m serious. Garrett, dance with me.”
“Garrett. Don’t embarrass me again!” Johnette said.
Garrett’s face held the longing for Eron to hold him as he’d done in the past, but he said, “Eron, no, not today.”
Johnette crossed her arms and huffed. Mary Ellen held her hands out and gave Eron a look that begged, “What the fuck?”
Allen cleared his throat as he walked up to the bar, Elsie in tow. “What’s going on here, kids? Your voices carry, you know.”
“Nothing, Dad.
Elsie raised her brow. “Everyone is staring.” Her impatience implicit in her whisper.
Mary Ellen tugged on Eron’s sleeve. “Come on. You’re going to ruin all my hard work.”
“I’m sorry, Elsie.” Garrett put a hand at Johnette’s back. “We’ll return to our seats.”
Eron grabbed him by the arm and tugged him away from everyone. “Garrett, I finallyhave everything figured out.”
Garrett leaned in, “We’ve already talked about this. Not today, not ever.”
