Chapter 31

The room he’s leaving is Seth’s.

Peter frowns as Mark pulls the door shut quietly behind him. The way he’s moving, trying not to make much noise, suggests that Seth is still asleep. So wait, did they…?

“Mark?” Peter calls softly.

With a guilty start, Mark whirls around, eyes wide. But when he sees it’s only Peter, he grins. “Hey, kid. You’re up early.”

“So are you,” Peter replies. “What’s my brother doing?”

“Sleeping in for once.” On tiptoes, Mark hurries down to where Peter waits by his door. He fishes out the keycard from his back pocket and leans past Peter to swipe it in the slot. This close, he smells like sweat. He gives Peter a wink. “I figured I’d save him the money and show myself out. Why pay the concierge when I know the way?”

“You stayed the night?” Peter asks. The moment the words are free, he regrets them. He sounds like a whiny bitch.
