Chapter 24

We sat in a cozy two-person breakfast nook in the shape of a horseshoe, looking out over his golden fields—maybe wheat?—on his ninety-acre ranch. Tucker told me that he’d rented out a lot of his property to farmers so that he could supplement the bed-and-breakfast’s income during slow periods. He also told me that his last boyfriend was named Leo Tang, a bull rider from Kansas who traveled from one rodeo to the next. “I learned that the man was a cheater. He had boyfriends in cities across the Midwest.”

“I’m sure you were heartbroken to learn that,” I said between waffle bites.

He blinked his adorable green eyes and nodded. “I was. I really loved him. Probably as much as you love Gray. If Leo would have asked me to spend the rest of my life with him, I would have accepted. But as I’ve always said, once a cheater, always a cheater. I couldn’t risk that.”
