Chapter 10

Miguel reached out and squeezed Thor’s shoulder. He glanced over at Edgar, who was standing nearby at the rail watching the activity on the dock. He motioned Thor to move further away from the boy.

Miguel spoke in a quiet voice. “It is better if you do not know. Trust me.”

“But why the mystery?

“Trust me,” Miguel said again.

Just then, Captain Allison, Adams, and Brewster walked up beside them. “Are you ready?” the captain asked Miguel.

“Aye, sir,” the boatswain replied.

“Very good.” The captain turned and walked down the gangplank, followed by the first and second mates.

“Have a good afternoon. We will have time together this evening,” Miguel said with a smile and another reassuring squeeze of Thor’s shoulder.

Thor nodded, feeling the warmth he usually did when there was a promise of intimacy in Miguel’s words.
